All our learners are aged over 18 – why do we need to be concerned about Safeguarding and Prevent?

People over the age of 18 are no less vulnerable, in terms of mental and physical well-being, than children.  As such, we have a duty of care to all learners, as employers do to all their staff.

Why do I need to be concerned about Modern Slavery?

Employers with over a £36 million annual threshold must under Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 complete an annual statement of what steps they have undertaken in the preceding 12 months to identify and, if necessary, deal with labour exploitation. Further details on this topic, including signs to look out for regarding Modern Slavery, are contained here.

Do Line Managers need to take part in Learner Reviews?

Yes, they have a key role to play in supporting their delegates throughout the programme and full details are shared at the launch plus supporting Management Engagement sessions.  Generally, we expect line managers to be involved for approximately 2 days over a 14-16-month programme in blocks of no more than two hours.

Who else in the business needs to be involved in the learning journey?

  • Those who have a role to play in your Improvement Project – typically people involved in the process and those providing inputs / receiving outputs.
  • Your line manager.
  • Internal mentors where available.
  • Central / group / coordinating functions – to guide and support and cohort-related activities including project selection where required.

What is the role of the mentor?

The mentor’s role would be to provide additional support from within your own organisation or from outside your organisation.   Expertise/experience that others may be able to provide is varied and can range from technical input on tools and techniques, to guidance on engaging and motivating others.  It’s not essential for learners to identify a mentor but why not secure all the help you can get?

When will arrangements be made for End Point Assessment?

Dates for the End Point Assessment are generally included in Capella’s Joining Instructions, but you will be contacted nearer the time, by the End Point Assessment Organisation that has been contracted to complete your End Point Assessments, to agree detailed plans which will require both the learner and their line manager to take part. At this point, any necessary arrangements/adjustments for those requiring additional learner support will be confirmed. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.

How do Capella ensure that the assessment of learners is valid, reliable and fair?

Capella is committed to ensuring that all learners are assessed in a valid, reliable and fair manner, and we endeavour to ensure that incidences of malpractice and/or maladministration are prevented from occurring.  In the event that it has not been possible to prevent such incidences from occurring, Capella is committed to ensuring that all cases of suspected or actual malpractice and/or maladministration are dealt with quickly, thoroughly and effectively. Please see Capella's Assessment Policy for further information: https://capellaassociates.com/company/capella-policies

What should we do if we have any concerns regarding assessment, or suspect malpractice or maladministration?

If  you suspect that Malpractice and/or Maladministration relating to an assessment, assignment or examination for a Vocational Qualification has taken place you should raise your concern with the Capella Managing Director or the Capella Operations Director at the earliest practicable stage. The Capella Managing Director or the Capella Operations Director will then follow the process detailed within our Assessment Policy (https://capellaassociates.com/company/capella-policies) .

What if circumstances change and we have to make apprentices redundant?

There are detailed guidelines in the ESFA funding rules that cover redundancy, and these must be followed carefully to ensure learners are appropriately supported.

Information regarding options if an apprentice is made redundant can be found on our Redundancy Information page: Redundancy Information : Capella Associates Resources (freshdesk.com)

If you’ve got any questions or would like to talk to us about your company's and/or your apprentice's situation, please contact any member of the Capella team.

We’ve been advised to promote Healthy Living for our apprentices – what should we be doing?

We’ve put together a list of things to help create an environment that supports the health and wellbeing of learners. You’ll find this here.
